Reasonable Collection Potential (RCP)

Definition

The IRS's calculation of the maximum amount it could realistically collect from a taxpayer through enforced collection actions over the remaining time on the statute of limitations. RCP forms the baseline for evaluating whether an Offer in Compromise is acceptable, and it accounts for the taxpayer's assets, income, and allowable living expenses.
