Currently Not Collectible (CNC)

Definition

A status granted by the IRS when a taxpayer cannot meet basic living expenses and simultaneously pay their tax debt, temporarily halting collection activity. While in CNC status, the IRS suspends enforced collection actions such as levies, though interest and penalties continue to accrue on the outstanding balance.
