Scope creep occurs when a client expects or requests services beyond what was originally agreed upon in an engagement, often without additional compensation to the firm. In accounting engagements, it commonly arises when clients assume tax preparation includes advisory services, compliance monitoring, or other tasks not explicitly outlined in the engagement letter.
