Definition

The use of software to automatically collect, organize, and route client documents and data at the start of an engagement, replacing manual follow-up and paper-based processes. For CPA firms, intake automation is typically the recommended first phase of any AI implementation because it addresses the most repetitive bottleneck in the client workflow. Fixing the intake process before layering on additional technology prevents firms from automating already-broken procedures.
