Definition

The independent standard-setting body that establishes accounting and financial reporting standards for U.S. state and local governments. GASB standards govern how government entities prepare financial statements, including the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), and differ significantly from the FASB standards used in commercial accounting.
