Form 7004

Definition

Form 7004 is the IRS application used to request an automatic extension of time to file certain business income tax returns, including Form 1065 for partnerships. Filing Form 7004 by the original due date grants a six-month extension but does not extend the time to pay any tax owed. For calendar-year partnerships, this moves the filing deadline from March 15 to September 15.
