The IRS form used by a corporation or eligible LLC to elect S corporation tax status under Subchapter S of the Internal Revenue Code. The form must generally be filed by March 15 of the tax year for which the election is to take effect, though late election relief is available in many circumstances. All shareholders must sign the form consenting to the S corporation election.
