A CP2000 is an automated IRS notice issued when income reported on your tax return doesn't match information reported by third parties like employers or financial institutions. It proposes changes to your tax liability and gives you the opportunity to agree, disagree, or provide additional documentation. Receiving one doesn't mean you're being audited, but it does require a timely and accurate response.
