Definition

A 1099 is a series of IRS information return forms used to report various types of income other than wages, salaries, and tips. Common versions include the 1099-NEC for nonemployee compensation and the 1099-MISC for miscellaneous income, and businesses are generally required to issue them to recipients and file copies with the IRS.
